We know the world of social media and online marketing can be a bit… fast. Slow down for a minute and get caught up on what’s been happening in the world of social.

Facebook Graph Search & Editable Posts:

Facebook’s Graph Search function now includes posts and status updates in search results. Privacy settings still apply, so if you don’t want your posts to be searchable, make sure your settings up are up to date. Users can also now edit status updates and posts once they’ve been posted. Click the down arrow in the top right of one of your posts and select ‘Edit Post’ to change the text, then click ‘Done Editing’.

featuredimg_facebookFacebook WiFi:

Facebook teamed up with Cisco to bring free wireless access to any business or patron – provided they “check in” to the location via Facebook first. Who can participate? According to Facebook, any business with a router and a valid local business Page on Facebook.

new_yahoo_logoYahoo Two-Step Verification:

Yahoo beefed up security measures by requiring a two-step verification process. If someone attempts to log in to your account with your password from an unrecognized device (even if it is, in fact, you) Yahoo will also require the answer to a security question or your mobile number. Some apps (like the Mail apps on iOS and Android) don’t work with this two-step verification, so Yahoo also offers a temporary App Password you can enter for additional protection.

Google is now supporting hashtags in its search results. So in addition to seeing results of hashtags used on Google+ (if public or shared with you), you’ll also see applicable highly-ranked website listings, plus instances where the hashtag is used on other social networks – like Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. (Click here for a more detailed explanation of how this works.)

featuredimg_twitterTwitter Alerts:

On September 25, Twitter announced a new feature to help users get accurate & important information during emergencies, natural disasters, or when other communications services aren’t available. This feature allows for alerts to appear on subscribers’ phones as push/SMS notifications when certain authoritative accounts mark Tweets as alerts, which will be easily distinguishable from other tweets in your timeline (appearing with an orange bell). The organizations with priority access to this feature include law enforcement and public safety agencies; emergency management agencies; city and municipal governments, as well as their agencies and representatives; county and regional agencies, providing services to cities and municipalities; and select state, federal, and national agencies and NGOs.
